Buying products and negotiating the keenest prices with suppliers is only part of the picture. Our team ensures every store shares the same special look and feel, and that every product is displayed to give maximum visibility and profitability. One of our greatest assets is our information gathering capability and our teams have huge amounts of data regarding market trends and analysis at their fingertips – something that’s key to staying ahead in all our buying activities.

This is the real hub of retail and the sense of excitement in the department is unmistakable. Everyone is driven by a sense of healthy competition - where else would you look forward to Monday mornings just for the buzz of the sales update? From Category Assistant to Category Manager, with various roles in between, and budgets from £4 m to £65 m, you’ll find you’re given high levels of responsibility really quickly. Vital to it in fact. Gathering insights and information, we look deeply into what consumers want and every bit of their information is fed into other internal departments – deciding what we sell, our direction, and how we look.

Every year our NPI&D team introduce and develop thousands of Boots own brand and exclusive products. From suntan lotion to sandwiches, cough mixture to cotton wool, if it’s a Boots product we have made it happen. Generating data on customers’ needs, concepts and products, the team provides great insights that inform and inspire new technologies. Our Continuous Improvement team is dedicated to increasing the efficiency and effectiveness of all of our existing products. And they even support the category team as they plan a product launch – which can take up to three years.

It’s a hugely successful department, full of expertise, with a number of diverse roles ranging from lab-based formulators to project managers. Each role is pivotal to the success of Boots, creating new products that are all helping our customers to look and feel better than they ever thought possible.

Did you know? The Boots No 7 brand was launched in 1935 – that’s over seventy years of beauty expertise. Since that time it’s had a few make-overs of its own and grown from 11 to 290 products.

Without Supply Chain and Logistics, the right products wouldn’t appear on the right shelves, at the right time. Our entire team consists of around 4,000 people, all working in an environment that’s full of energy - making sure no shelf ever stands empty. Our head office team looking after it all consists of 200 people. Working with external suppliers and departments throughout the company, they use highly astute project management skills to source and deliver the right products, on time and at the right cost. Without this team we’d have factories full and shops empty.

When Supply Chain and Logistics receive an order, they have one day to get the products out to the store. Such a fast-paced environment ensures the culture is efficient, modern and competitive; join us, and you’ll see the results from your work immediately.

We opened the doors to our first Boots manufacturing plant in Nottingham in 1935. Since then, we’ve been leading the way in producing high-quality Health and Beauty products. Famous brands like No 7 and the Soltan range have all been researched, tested and developed at one of our facilities. In fact, we now produce over 5,000 different products, for Group and non-Group customers, and we manufacture over 350 million units every year.

We have over 2,300 people working in our factories, both in the UK, the Republic of Ireland and across Europe, ranging from Production Operatives to Engineers, Customer Service Operatives to a dedicated Sales and Marketing Department. Constantly at the forefront of technology, the department helps to create products for Ruby and Millie, FCUK and Trevor Sorbie and at the recent re-launch for No 7 created 80 miles of lipstick and 490 baths full of foundation.

As with any company, our Finance Department is a fundamental part of our business, providing crucial information that helps the rest of the organisation make its key decisions. Analysing data taken from every location, and every customer transaction, they help to define what products appear on the shelves, and what prices they’re sold at.

The best thing is you don’t necessarily need to be an expert to join the Finance team. It’s a challenging place but it’s somewhere you’ll learn and grow in an environment that’s open and supportive. Being the best Health and Beauty retailer in the world takes a lot of people, all needing the backing of a sophisticated HR department. With divisions in both Nottingham and Feltham, the central team consists of HR Organisational Development, HR Operations, Learning and Development, Resourcing, Reward, Employee Relations, Corporate and Social Responsibility, Health & Safety and Communications. Supporting each function of the business and working with line managers out in the field, this is vital support for the entire company.

A task so sizeable that the base cost to run the business is £120 million alone, with an extra £30 million set aside for projects. Our NHS Services Department based at Feltham incorporates the Professional Services Team, Ethical Commercial Team, the Superintendent Pharmacists Office and the Prescription Programme Team. They also develop and deliver initiatives to grow prescription service performance, and develop policies and procedures for professional practice, clinical governance and customer relations. Together they support the business and help it to deliver the company’s healthcare strategy.

Comprising teams in Location Strategy, Estates, Retail Property Projects, Retail Property Maintenance and Group Engineering, the Property department ensures we have the right properties, in the right place, to meet changing retail trends. This means acquiring and disposing of retail sites to meet our growth ambitions, continuous maintenance and estate management, and taking charge of all the retail property projects. This could be anything from refurbishment to major engineering and construction works. Our team also manages the company’s energy procurement and usage.
