Qualifications when I started at Boots: No specific qualifications were required but I’d just completed a law degree.

My career so far: I’d started training as a solicitor but decided it wasn’t for me. I just knew that I wanted to work in retail. Boots seemed the obvious choice, not only for its great reputation as a retailer but also as an employer. I started working as a Category Assistant in Photo Service and then moved over to Fashion Brand Cosmetics, firstly as Category Assistant before becoming the Junior Buyer.

My typical day: There is no typical day in the trading arena, you can work on new products one day and marketing the next, it’s this variety that makes it so exciting. The atmosphere is fast-paced and friendly and there’s a real buzz about the new products we’re introducing and the new ranges we’re launching.

The best thing about my job: The flexibility, the variety of the roles available and the people. You can gain experience in all areas of the business and can really get involved at all stages of the product lifecycle, from marketing to formulation. You even get involved in choosing the right stores to stock your product. There’s also the social side, it’s really easy to make friends here and there are loads of social activities you can get involved in.
