Let's get to know each other
Preparing for interview
We try to make applying for a job with us as accessible and straightforward as possible. We want you to be successful, so we’ll always give you clear instructions and helpful advice about what we’re looking for in candidates.
If you’re invited to an interview, we’ll tell you what to expect in advance. It gives you a chance to prepare so that you can show the best of yourself on the day. Hopefully, it’ll also help you feel at ease and able to ‘be yourself’ when we meet.
The way you’re assessed will vary dependent upon the role you apply for but here are some of the ways you might be assessed for a job with us:
This is a convenient way of finding out whether your skills and experience match the role.
In this type of interview, you’ll be asked to talk about situations you have been in and how you have influenced the situation to deliver an outcome. This helps us compare your strengths and ‘development needs’ against the demands of the job.
Here you’ll talk about things that you’ve done well, found satisfying and are proud of. We’ll want you to share the detail around what you did, thought, said, and felt in these situations. Again, it helps us get to know you and understand what you’re good at.
Sometimes we’ll ask you to complete an exercise that relates to the job. Here are some examples:
The role play allows you to show how you’d complete an element of the job, such as coaching a colleague or negotiating with a supplier.
In this exercise, you’re given an in-tray of tasks that relate to a situation that you might encounter at work. Your aim is to prioritise the tasks and solve the issues you are presented with.
In these tasks, you’ll be asked to investigate and respond to a specific work situation. You’ll make your recommendations in a written report or a presentation. It’s a way of demonstrating your problem-solving and decision-making skills.
These tests measure specific abilities such as verbal and numerical reasoning, together with assessing personality characteristics. See the link below for some further information.
